Monokuma began spouting riddles and platitudes on TV using a hacked TV signal broadcast from the SS Espero, bringing many people under subliminal hypnotic control all over the world, in all walks of power. A second broadcast set some people into motion, including Artemis, who stole Doctor Xadium's TARDIS and brought it to Enoshima Junko.

On June 30th, the hypnotized Doctor Krieger ambushed his allies in The Black Covenant, taking over their house and manipulating its technology to turn it into Monokuma Tower, which is silently looming over Tokyo for the time being:

On July 1st, Meiji Doyle, Suu, Mormeril, ShugoNoSenshi and Giselle Bellerose investigated the Espero and found out that the crew had gone mad. The passengers had killed each other, the senior officers ripping their captain limb from limb. Via Monokuma, Enoshima Junko has been broadcasting mind control waves all over the world, programming the weak-willed to set her master plan in motion.

As she stated via an AI representative:

" At a certain time, in five certain places that you won't expect, the people I've brainwashed will activate, bringing about mass chaos and destruction, and despair. "

She also indicated that should the heroes pass the tests she'd set up for them in Monokuma Tower, that they would find out the five locations.

As a result of the incident on the Espero, several hundred killer Monokuma Bots escaped into the sea and fled to parts unknown.
