HISTORY
Before the Junia Twins
Born Kaitlyn O'Shea in the city of Limerick, Ireland to a pair of loving parents, she would end up being the fourth of eighth children. Despite living far away from the Northern Ireland territories, issues between the UK and the Emerald Isle were reaching a boiling point. Because of this, Kate's parents decided to relocate their family to the United States. Kate was 8 years old at this point, leaving her friend Fiona Glenanne behind. Kate would adopt the shortening of her name when she went to school in a town outside of Boston. She excelled academically and became a cheerleader when she was approached following a demonstration of her acrobatic abilities were showcased. While she never lacked for potential suitors, none caught her fancy. She did date a few boys, but nothing really came of it.
When she graduated, she applied to the US Naval Academy, despite her mom's concerns. Her father supported her endeavors, and used some of his connections to help facilitate this desire. He applauded her desire to what to help defend their adopted country. She would find that being a Surface Warrior Officer was not what she truly wanted though, but to be an aviator. The F-14 Tomcats were the pride and joy of the Navy at the time, and she wanted to handle that beautiful beast. She would get her chance, as she excelled in the simulators and spent extra time learning and understanding, to include even taking flight courses outside her duties. Her devotion garnered her the attention of those who respected her drive. Eventually she would graduate and found herself assigned to a F-14 squadron that would be connected to the USS Enterprise.
She eventually got to attend Top Gun in San Diego, California, excelling in the program. The pilot seat was made for her, and her weapons officer Travis Norberg, callsign Dingo, loved hanging out with her in the skies and the clubs. He was happily married and thought of Kate as his sister. He never worried that they wouldn't be coming back from a mission. It was in San Diego that he would introduce her to his longtime friend, an Air Force officer by the name of Jun Junia.
Jun and Kate instantly hit it off and would marry a year later at the Riverwalk in San Antonio, a beautiful Catholic Church close to the Alamo. A year later, Kate would be temporarily assigned to Laughlin AFB in Del Rio with her husband after she became pregnant, teaching young Air Force and Navy pilots going through the pilot pipeline. This is where she would have a dark secret... she was pregnant with twins. However, on the day of she was to give birth, her close friend had a still birth. She made a decision that would affect the two families and the twins immensely: She would keep Kevin and give Aliana to her friend. Jun did not know that his wife was pregnant with twins and things seemed to work out. The two families would remain very close and despite not fully growing up together, Kevin and Aliana would still be interconnected in their lives.
Jun and Kate's love for each other never broke and the two had six more children two sons and four more daughters, the last two being identical twins. However, with Aliana's growth and how much she looked like Jun, the truth of her birth would be a strain on not only Kate and Jun, but Aliana's adopted family. Michael Johnson suspected his wife had an affair with Jun, and did a DNA test on Aliana, confirming the child was not his. In his anger, he confronted Jun and nearly punched him. Jun protested his innocence saying he never thought of Aria that way nor did he ever do anything inappropriate with her only anyone else for that mattered. When Michael showed him the DNA test confirming that Jun not Michael was the father, Jun's jaw dropped, and Michael was about to help him pick it up with an uppercut. Kate and Aria both interfered with this punch however and it did not connect. Jun was not afraid, but his mind was not able to process how he was Aliana's father. He never touched Aria especially in that way, and he wondered if a cruel trick was being played on him. Michael was seething with anger at the betrayal of a person he had considered his best friend. When everyone saw the paper that Michael held in his hand the two women's eyes went wide with horror. The truth was in front of them, but the two men had no idea how wrong they were about this. Kate and Aria told the full truth, and both men gasped in horror and their eyes went wide. Michael started to cry, realizing what he had done, what the women had done, what he had lost, and what he could lose. Jun was just as perplexed.
While their intentions were noble, the path to Hell is pathed with good intentions. This revelation would rock the two families, and cause confusion for the kids. To the men it now made sense why Aria was so adamite about keeping the two families as close together. Aliana was not Kevin's childhood friend, but his twin sister... his polar twin to be exact. Aliana would later be told this revelation, and she realized the two she considered "Auntie" and "Uncle" were actually her biological mom and dad. She would handle this well and realized she had two sets of parents who loved and cared for her deeply. However, Kate hadn't mention this to Kevin yet and wondered when she could tell him. She only told him that he should never think of Aliana romantically, a fact that raised Kevin's eyebrow, but he would not look into this... yet.
While Jun would maintain his posting at Laughlin AFB and would raise the children in Del Rio with the help of Aria and Michael (plus raising 8 children in a city that was cheap to live in made things a bit easier), Kate took a posting with a F-18 squadron in California, assigned to USS Abraham Lincoln. Kate did this because she wanted to further her career but also, she knew Jun was feeling shaken from the truth. She wanted to give him some space even though the revelation had been a year prior. Jun understood this and said he loved Kate with all his heart but agreed with her assessment. It allowed the two of them to rediscover their fire and their love. He forgave his wife, and they would live happily with their family together... however life was about to throw them all a curveball.
The Red War
The world changed when her first twins were entering their junior year of high school. Due to complacency or stupidity or whatever, the US would be the victim of a pair of EMP strikes that would temporarily knockout the Western and Eastern power grids. Fortunately for the US, their military was not affected by these as they had taken measures to protect their assets from this kind of threat. Kate would be at the forefront of the retaliation against the Red Army Alliance. In her first active combat mission, she would down three SU-31s and two HINDs, technically making her an ace (though some question if helicopters should count despite being air assets). Her squadron would reign hell on the Red Army forces, helping to pin them south of Los Angeles. San Diego, Camp Pendleton, and El Toro were not completely cut off land wise but if the encirclement was completed, then their situation could grow dire.
She however grew very concerned about the reports she was receiving out of Texas. The military's response was slower and not as concise. While Ft Hood was sending reinforcements, the entire Rio Grande Valley had fallen and there was a rumor that the teenagers of Del Rio launched an ill-fated ambush south of the city and took grievous losses. She feared for the safety of her children, especially her eldest twins whom she predicted would be involved in that fight. She would learn that her twins had saved many of their fellow classmates that day and regrouped. There were also rumors that they had found very powerful weapons and had dealt their own hard-hitting counterattack that left many T-90s as smoking husks. What she didn't know was that Kevin and Aliana had taken a large contingent towards California to help stabilize that area and hopefully get reinforcements.
Her twins would arrive at a critical moment, saving Carlos Icelean's own militia and helping to drive back the Red forces. The two were reunited with their mom and that's when Kevin was told the truth about Aliana. While her eldest child was visibly angry at this revelation and that it had been hidden from him, with Aliana and Carlos' help, her quickly reconciled with his mom and got back towards the true enemy. Unfortunately, tragedy would strike as Aria and Michael Johnson would be captured and removed by the Red forces, a warning to the Del Rio insurgents. Kate would learn that Red forces had also captured a pair of Japanese female cousins and were going to use them for nefarious purposes. Her twins stepped up and rescued Myuu Takeda and Anri Nakao, earning admiration from the US, Japan, their families, and the eternal loyalty of Kenshin Takeda. However, before the final battle of Sakhalin Island took place and the end of the Red War, Kate would learn something that would devastate her completely: Aliana had been shot down and was presumed lost (which she was).
The Red War had taken much from her: her squadron mates, her friends, and now members of her family. She wanted revenge, but there was no one to get revenge on. Victory was a bittersweet taste for her but when she found out the real truth behind the Red War, she would be out for blood... and she would get it.
