Acamedic World Domination
Zaik, or to use his birthname, Ezaikel, was fortunate to be brought up on a rich, well developed and scientifically advanced society. He received a full education and achieved pretty much every academic accolade in the book. Despite his successes and the respect he'd earned among his peers, he never showed any pride in his achievements. Zaik's thirst for knowledge drove him like a man possessed onto the next research field, and then the next after that. While there's no question that he's a man that loves his work, he's never satisfied, determined to figure out every nut and bolt that holds the universe together the way it is.
Auren
The system of Auren is about the size of the Sol system, with 9 planets orbiting a star not unlike Earth's sun. Zaik was born on Auren III. As with almost all good things, however, the scientific advances and rich cultural history came to an end some time ago. The planet is now known as Tellis, and acts as an enormously complex interstellar beacon for travelling ships. Auren III's legacy protects trade convoys and military fleets alike as they traverse what has become a very unstable part of space.
The Darkness, and the Light
All nine of Auren's planets were colonised, and all well equipped to each hold their own should a hostile force lay siege to any of the worlds. Their ultimate demise was caused by an enemy they simply couldn't fight - because it did not attack. Auren's sun faded one day, without any warning. Enveloped by darkness in a matter of hours, there was little any of the worlds could do to defend an attack on the system's star - no one had predicted that.
In time it was revealed the eclipse the entire system was thrown into was permanent. The star's gaseous state had changed to a solid one, and it no longer burned. Action was taken quickly and Auren III was to become the "light" of the system - something not even Aurenians had dreamed of before. A man-made sun.
Tellis became just that - and much more. It provided synthetic light to the system, and later became a guiding beacon for ships travelling through the sector. In some sense it performs a similar function to the Imperium's Astronomicon on Terra. The darkness that consumed the star retreated soon after it arrived, but it was not long before it returned.
The battle that came known as Auren's Light saw the end of the threat to Auren, but no one is convinced the beings of darkness were completely defeated - only repelled.
Present Day Living
The battles that saw Auren saved led Zaik to become a permanent member of the crew of The Infernus, where he is perpetually working on new and more outlandish projects, seeking that one elusive dream: complete understanding. Zaik's personality means that he's rarely seen on Earth, preferring the solitude of his labs than the company of people. After creating Zail, however, you might be forgiven for thinking sometimes even Zaik feels lonely.
Dawn of the Ancients
Recent events have had a drastic effect on both Zaik and that of the crew of the Infernus. More details will be revealed in an upcoming arc.
