Riya is a young Lupa woman who has somehow become the companion of the Time Lord Thrash. They met when Thrash landed on her planet in the 27th century and encountered a team of explorers experimenting on the planet's "native creatures," which were in fact members of the Lupa community living there. While Thrash was able to help stop what was going on, Riya's young brother died before this could happen.
