Serum L

Serum L is a serum created by Anjai Yusanavich in her scientific experiments with the goal of enabling Lupa to interbreed with Humans. While her experiment failed in this regard, it gave a Human the ability to become a half-changed behemoth and perform superhuman feats. Both Graham Langford and his archenemy, The Accursed are the only currently known people to take the serum.

Details

Serum L consists of a combination of Lupa proteins and hormones suspended in a liquid combination of certain treated human steroids and chemical compounds. In theory, the combination would cause a reaction with the human genome, binding the proteins to certain sequences of the DNA strand. This would create an altered series of genes with regressive Lupa qualities but still remain for the most part dominantly human.

However, in practice, the serum instead created a hybridized state, causing the Lupa cells to permanently bond and alter the human genome, creating a lycanthropid state. Dr. Yusanavich theorized that the serum had not weakened the much more aggressive Lupa chromosomes enough to stop them from altering the other genes, but at the same time were interfered with enough to prevent full scale change. She likened it to stopping the Changing process from Human to Lupa half way through, if such a thing were possible.

If administered to Lupa, the serum has a much more dangerous reaction. As seen with The Accursed, Serum L causes a massive disruption of the cellar structure, warping and scarring the individual in the process, as well as causing instability with the skin to fur changes. Though the reasons aren't fully understood, it has been suggested it is due to the fact that the serum's attempted bonding process may interfere with certain proteins within the cells, causing a noticeable but non lethal cancerous reaction. The serum also can disrupt the proteins that make up the brain cells, causing unpredictable changes to personality and possibly astral use, as well as psychosis, paranoia, and heightened violence.
