Born to Banyina Gueye and Junpei Ishihara in 1981, Marie grew up in a very prosperous household in the capital city of Yaoundé in the African country of Cameroon. With the economic crisis that started to befall within the country, Marie's father Junpei decided to move back to his homeland of Japan, taking his wife and daughter with him. He managed to continue their financial success in the timber industry. Having moved to Kitakyushu City in Fukuoka Prefecture at the age of seven, Marie felt like she stood out like a sore thumb. The only black Hafu in her school gave her quite the complex, especially since she began to tower over her classmates as the years wore on. She was adept at learning languages, having been learning French and English from her mother and Japanese from her father, Marie began to envelop herself in her studies. She excelled in her studies though she was continually made an outcast and bullied in school. She gained a scholarship to a prestigious, international high school in Tokyo and moved there when she turned 15 or so.
