Born to Shiro Shin and Ran Shin, Ume grew up in the city of Akita on the northern coast of Japan. A member of the Shin clan, Ume was well aware of her family's heritage but thought very little of it. She soon gained an interest in music, especially using the guitar and started to practice with a goal of becoming a professional artist. Her entire life changed, however, one night when a fire accidentally broke out in her home. Panicking, she fully awoke to her senshi self, using the flames to teleport herself and her family out. Recovering, her family knows of her powers but has taught her only to use them in an emergency. Having never left the city, Ume is aware of but has never met any of her fellow senshi.
