The Realm

" It's the naked vices of humanity's id given strength to move amongst men."
—John Constantine

An extradimensional space home to a universe Perpendicular to our own. Home to purely mental beings of vast power and reach who become significantly more limited when "squeezed" into the physical plenums of the conventional multiverse.

First mentioned by John Constantine in February 2013, nothing much was really known of The Realm outside of the visions of madmen, saints and spirit mediums who channeled the extradimensional entities, many of whom contextualized themselves in our dimension as twisted simulcra of historical figures colored by by the visions of their receiving hosts.

Similarly, our multiverse was only tangentially known of to the Realm; however the Great Interplanar Rift of 2013, which was created when Asteroid 2012 DA14 passed between the Earth and the moon on February 15th 2013, opened a transient gateway between the two zones. Several intelligences-- "Realm Essences"-- burst into our universe, "compressing" into the form of a 15 meter, approximately 7000ton, meteorite which entered the Earth's atmosphere at a speed of at least 40,000 mph, shattering about 12-15 miles above Chelyabinsk, Russia, spreading fragments to areas such as Chebarkul lake, and Zlatoust, a town 80 kilometers northwest of Chelyabinsk. Other fragments exploded over San Francisco Bay. The fragments of the meteor injured over 1000 people, each of whom-- unbeknownst to them-- became Seeds of the Realm, becoming Symbiotic Hostes for the Realm fragments, who read their memories and experiences to "Individuate", becoming new beings based on a mishmash amalgam of some aspect of the Human's memory and the Realm Essence's Intelligence.

There is an underlying subconcious herd mentality amongst the essences that causes them to draw closer to each other, and to yearn to get back to their space-- an act which would destroy our reality.

Hostes

A human being affected by a Realm Essence fusion starts to have odd dreams, then begins to express whatever sublimated or suppressed desires they have been withholding. As they use the power and knowledge of the Realm Essence to achieve their goals, their ambition grows, and they become progressively more dangerous and sociopathic.

The strongest fusions even develop "superpowers" and twisted identities based on fragments of the fused human's knowledgebase.
