Melinoe of Pluto
Melione of Pluto is the former "Queen of Pluto" and the Silver Millenium "mother" of Meioh Setsuna but is in fact a Time Splinter of herself.
To Win is To Lose
In a certain Time Segment, Setsuna Meioh managed to achieve everything that she had ever wanted: usurping Usagi Tsukino's postion as the leader of the Sailor Senshi, getting the love of Mamoru Chiba and becoming the ruler of the Solar System as well as soon half of the Milky Way Galaxy. Living a whirlwind life of hedonism and power, Setsuna soon craved even more. Realizing that even her time powers had their limits and wanting to expand her influence across the centuries, Setsuna made her way to the planet Gallifrey, managing to break into the capitol and in a supreme act of egotism, attempted to take control of the untempered schism, hoping to absorb the power of the Time-Space Vortex itself. The result, however, was not what she expected: Allowed to see and experience all of time left Setsuna deeply depressed and created an almost instant mid-life crisis for the woman. Abandoning everything that she had achived, Setsuna sought to find some meaning in her now empty life. Attempting new levels of hedonism and then denying herself the same as well as rejuvenating herself several times, Setsuna spent near 20 years at a hippie commune, getting (in her own words) "blasted out of her brain on more weed then you can ever imagine". Realizing that everything she had sought had brought her nothing but misery, Setsuna used her now heightened powers to travel back to before the Silver Millenium, hoping to find some meaning for herself, rejuvenating herself back to infancy in the process.
A New Life
Editor: the following is a secret history, known only to the Queens of the Silver Millennium
Melione was found as an infant amid the fields on the planet by the great Cult of Pluto. At this time, Pluto was a beautiful world, home to an impressive kingdom where time seemed to exist all at once. The foundling was brought to the attention of Lady Desponia, the leader of the group, who adopted the child as her own daughter. Melione grew up under many tutors, though her great intelligence (due to her previous life) meant that she had little need for them, while her power she kept hidden, fearing how they may react. Most treated her with indifference with even Desponia only showing the barest of affection. She found kindness in the form of Hagne, who encouraged the child to open up as well as to socialize with the other princesses of the outer courts, who she met during some of the few interactions Desponia had with the outside world. This positive experience in her life began to work towards making her a kinder gentler person then she might have been, especially with the new friendships she rapidly made. She also fell in love, finding someone for whom she could give her heart without the need to pine for them.
However, things soon began to change for the worse. The already controlling Moon Kingdom soon turned tyrannical under the new rule of Selenity X. Concerned for this and encouraged by Hagne, who too had grown to fear what was happening, Melione joined the other outer princesses in trying to rise up against their oppressors, though the Princess of Pluto kept to the shadows, feeding information whenever she could find it. When open warfare finally arose under the leadership of Selenity’s sister Serenity, Melione attempted to take part but was apprehended by guards under the orders of her adopted mother. It was then that she learned the truth: Desponia had known all along of Melione’s origins and powers and in fact had planned to groom her to become a weapon for Pluto, one which would wipe out the Moon Kingdom itself and in it’s place a great Empire of Time. To this end, Desponia had Melione lashed to a machine to try and amplify her powers. As Desponia began the ceremony, Hagne attempted to interfere and free the princess from her bonds. Instead, the woman was swiftly killed by Desponia, Hagne’s last words begging Melione not to lose her smile. The death of one person on Pluto who had actually cared for her caused Melione to scream in despair, unleashing the full extent of her powers, disrupting the careful balance of time on the planet. The entire cult was rapidly reduced to dust as was the entire planet of Pluto. Desponia had enough time to tell Melione how proud she was of her power before she too died, leaving the princess alone on a blasted landscape. The various time paradoxes and timelines collapsed onto themselves along with the remains of Pluto’s castle, creating The Core, a new portal to an unknown location. The only other surviving object left of Pluto’s legacy was The Time Door, whom to even the Cult of Pluto was a mystery.
After the defeat and exile of Selenity X and the crowning of Serenity as Serenity I, Melione was named the first Queen of Pluto and had a new palace built on the far side of the planet, with a single throne room, from which she could guard The Core, along with her husband. She also married the love of her life, from whom she would have a daughter. She was one of the Outer Queens who came to greet Jenn and her court when they returned to Saturn. After a time, she retreated to her home world, to await the arrival of Past Life Self, for now Melione saw herself as having become a separate person from the being she once had been . According to some, The arrival of Sailor Pluto to the moon court caused all to assume this to be the daughter of Melione due to their similar appearance and powers, while according to others, the Princess Pluto was often involved in royal affairs until she was of age to take over the Time Gate.
During the fall, Melione vanished completely, though it was assumed that she had been killed like the others.
Abilities
Exposure to the untempered schism as well as years of constant experimentation as Setsuna has left Melinoe with immense time related powers. One of Melinoe's greatest powers is her "Time Sight", allowing her to see potential moments in the future, though of varying degrees of accuracy and lead to her nickname of "The Seer-Queen of Pluto".
Melione can also create her own time gates, allowing her to time travel under her own power without the need of a time key, though this will often drain her and force her to rest afterwards.
Melione has the ability to manipulate her own age, allowing her to "rejuvenate" herself to re-experience her life. However once she rejuvinates, she cannot force herself back to her previous age, forcing her to grow up all over again. She has done this at least five times.
Due to exposure to the Ginzuishou after the Great Uprising, Melione is now near immortal.
Trivia
- Outside her marriage to Mamoru as Setsuna, Melinoe has married at least once.
- Melione waffles on her views of herself as Setsuna: Sometimes she will acknowledge herself as being an older future variant of her and sometimes she will treat said version of Setsuna as being a completely different personage to herself. She tends to lean towards the latter. Due to the wish on the Super Dragon Balls, Melione is now a fully separate individual from Setsuna.
- Melione suffered PTSD for a time due to witnessing the devestation and deaths, as well as her near torture in the final days of The Great Uprising. Elizabeth has been credited with a great deal of helping her deal with these feelings.
