Origin
Created to be a counterpart for Gemini Sunrise in the New Berlin Kagekiden, Kancer Kain's origins are somewhat obscure, other then the fact that she was created as a clone through a strand of Gemini's hair. Artificially aged using Kouma DNA and raised to hate the woman who served to be source. After reaching the proper age, she was given her first assignment by Brent Furlong, the grandson of Bret Furlong.
New Berlin Kagekiden
On her first assignment, Kancer was sent out to kill the two Sunrise sisters, partially as a proving test and to send a message to the Rising Valkyrie Unit. Starting off by killing those close to Geminine and trying to blame the deaths on her, Kancer was eventually able to force a meeting with the Senka, the team that Gemini was a part of. While the New Berlin Kagekiden escaped, they left the senka team fairly upset, especially Gemini, who disliked the fact that someone had cloned her. With Brent Furlong announcing the reopening of the new Douglas Stewart Company, Kancer settled in as one of the heads of security for the business.

Death
On January 12, 2017, Kancer Kain was found on the streets of Tokyo with a bullet in her brain. Teleported to The Hotel, it was discovered that not only had she sustained damaged through her skull, but that she was suffering from a form of clone degeneration. In a show of kindness, Gemini offered to donate some of her blood, spinal fluid, and bone marrow in an attempt to stabilize the woman. However, it seemed too late, and with a parting word apparently asking for forgiveness and the word "sewer," Kancer passed away. While Chateaux seemed interested in keeping the dead body in stasis as part of her growing collection, Kancer's body was later found apparently crumbled to dust.
Kancer turned back into a 10 year old
Renewel
Due to the transfer of Gemini's genetic material, the Kouma DNA was flushed out of Kancer's body, reverting her back to about a 10 year old. Horrified and frustrated, Kancer quickly hid herself in Claire's room, living inside her closet. Though confused, Claire treated her with kindness, causing Kancer to slowly trust her, if still frustrated by her situation. Finally deciding to make a move against Gemini, whom she blamed for her current state, Kancer was eventually caught while trying to get into the Big Grocery. Chat, against her better judgement, offered the child a new role as head of security, as well as a chance to become her apprentice.
Travels through Time
Attempting to prove her own heel-face turn to her "sisters", Kancer hijacked Thrash's TARDIS, taking it back in time in an attempt to save the life of Lynne Sunrise. Failing in this endeveour, Kancer was left depressed and broken, Thrash taking her home to recover. Intern arrived soon after and after a short speech, convinced her to travel through time with her, teaching her how to be responsable and helping her to heal.
During this time, Kancer would have several adventures with Intern. These included:
- Getting lost in Death Valley while Intern was high on Peyote
- Travelling to Edo era Japan, where Kancer befriended Aru Hoshikawa, the daughter of a slain samurai. Kancer was given Aru's late father's katana as thanks, which she would name "Soulful Singer".
- Landing on the graveyard planet Morphas, where a "Memorium Machine" meant to allow visitors to interact with their dead relatives malfunctioned. This summoned the spirit of every person Kancer had killed in the past as well as her own adult former self. Kancer with Intern's help was able to come to grips with her dark past and move on from it.
- Stop over at the Eye of Orion, where Kancer buried her revolvers to be symbolically reborn. She would decide to take on the name "May Sunrise-McCarthy" to honor both her sister and mother.
- Visit to the entertainment planet Polymax, where May became enamored with the idols singing there, making her a deep seated fan.
- An incident where she saved Intern but in the process was blinded. While the Time Lord was able to mostly heal her eyes, there was some remaining damage, forcing May to wear glasses.
Eventually an incident forced Intern to attend to some business in which she couldn't take May with her. Finding May's nearest genetic family (Gemini and Geminie's eighth cousins seven times removed), the Time Lord dropped off the eleven year old with them. May took the name "Mei Yoneme" during this time, incorporating the family's surname as well as their mispronunciation of her own name.
Trivia
- Has a love of western films, especally those starring John Wayne.
- Considers Claire her best friend, even if she can't understand her language.
- Due to the radiations May was exposed to due to her travels with Intern, she is no longer a true clone of Gemini, making her closer genetically to a sister.
- Has a slight texan accent but can turn it off whenever she wishes to.
