Sesselja, known by some daemonologists as stomach bottle bugs, are spirits shaped by one of the long-lost Powers That Be to clean a long-forgotten city of detritus, waste, and poisons. Physically, a sesselja resembles a cross between a shrimp, a mantis, and an octopus; they feed only on the waste products of other creatures, and are somewhat fragile creatures that make up for their weakness with their prolific breeding.

Sesselja are intelligent, cheery, and just delighted to get their feeding holes on toxins of all sorts. A lesser-known use for sesselja is that of surgeon, as they can physically enter fleshy bodies as though they were swimming through water and play with flesh as though they were knitting yarn together; an involuntary host can eject an unwanted sesselja with concentration and flexing of muscles, so they make poor weapons at best. Lastly, as spirits, sesselja are vulnerable to exorcism and warding.

On April 16, 2016, Yaijinden summoned sesselja to purify the Hotel's tainted water supplies. Bound to the Hotel and warned never to emerge from the pipes lest their lives be forfeit, the first sesselja settled in quite nicely, and began doing its job -- soon, its family's job -- with admirable efficacy.

And because it's been asked, sesselja taste like a combination of catfish and calamari.
