Wiki Coding

From Whatis
Jump to: navigation, search

On this page I will attempt to accumulate all the wiki coding most people will use. It will NOT include box templates. The good way to get them is to copy one from another page and modify it for your uses.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For sample/demonstration purposes, spaces have been added between coding elements so that they may be viewed. When using these on your own pages, do not use spaces between coding elements.

Titles

Level heads (or titles) are the heading levels used to organize topics in writing. On this page, the titles "Linking" and "Titles" are levels heads. There are generally several levels of heads, from first to fourth, or more as necessary in technical writings. To make level heads in the wiki, use "=" for the first level, "==" for second, and "===" for third on either side of the title, and so on:

= first =.

You will not have to make the box at the top of the page displaying the level heads: this will be done automatically when you use the level heads.

Linking and Categories

Links

Inter-Wiki Links

To make an internal link, surround the words to be linked with [[ ]]: Lupa

To make an internal link with different wording than the page title, use [ [ Wolftouched | Zaira ] ]: Zaira.

External Links

To make an external link in text, use []. Place the link inside the bracket, followed by a space and what you'd like the link to read [ http://www.suburbansenshi.com Suburban Senshi ]: Suburban Senshi

To insert a picture, simply paste the link (as from photobucket or imgur). https :// i.imgur.com/WyPlAZC.jpg:

WyPlAZC.jpg

HTML and CSS can now be used to add precisely sized and laid out pictures and text.

Surround your code with

[HTML] (youtube embed code here) [/HTML]

(use < and > instead of [ and ] )

However, please be aware that large pictures disrupt page layout, and should be rezised if possible. Between 300-500 pixels wide is suggested.

To embed video, see Embedding media into the wiki.

To use URL tags (they work in the play boxes, but not the wiki), use:

[ url=link ] text you want to appear [ /url ]

[url=https://whatis.suburbansenshi.com/index.php/Main_Page]Wiki Main Page[/url]

Categories

When making a page, it is a good idea to assign one or more categories to it--however many apply. Do this by using the [[]] brackets: [ [ category: Sailor Senshi ] ]

If the category has more than 1 word, you must use capitalization as used on the page. A one-word category may be all lowercase. To see if a category already exists, please see the Categories page.

FONT MODIFICATIONS (Bold, etc.)

To make something bold, simply use three apostrophes on either side of the word, phrase, or sentence: This is bold.

To make something italicized, use two apostrophes on either side of the word, phrase, or sentence: This is italic.

Spaces do not nullify this coding.

To underline something, use u in angle brackets < > at the front and /u in angle brackets at the end to "close" the underlining. <u> and </u>: This is underlined.

To strike out something, use s in angle brackets < > at the front and /s in angle brackets at the end to "close" the underlining. <s> and </s>: This is struck out.

Bullets

Use the asterisk to make a bullet * point one:

  • point one
  • point two

Use multiple asterisks to make indented bullets.

  • point one
    • point one a
      • point one a 1

Line Breaks

The wiki will only break text if there's a blank line in between. To make a line break without an extra blank, use < br >:

text text text
text text text

Redirects

To redirect a page to another page, use # redirect [ [ link here ] ], without spaces.

Quotes

Block Quotes

To make a block quote, use the code < blockquote > and < /blockquote >.

this is a block quote

Attributed Quotes

A template has been made for single speaker quotes. Use: {{Quote|What was said|Who said it}}

"This is a test"
—Test Quoter

This only works for single speaker quotes (i.e, from only one source).

Video

There is a page on embedding video and media into pages at Embedding media into the wiki.

Dead Characters

To mark a Character dead, in-universe (or even perceived as dead for an extra level of duplicty) simply add {{DeadCharacter}} to the top of the page and it will add the correct box and category.

Tabber

This allows the author to create tabs within a page. The tabs can contain any valid wiki data (links, images, templates, etc).

Usage

Tabs are created as follows: <tabName>=<tabBody>

Tabs are separated by: "|-|"

<tabber>
 tab1=Some neat text here
|-|
 tab2=
 [http://www.google.com Google]<br>
 [http://www.cnn.com Cnn]<br>
|-|
 tab3={{Template:SomeTemplate}}
</tabber>

Multiple word tabs

Add &nbsp; between words. Example:

<tabber>
 multiple&nbsp;word&nbsp;tab=Some neat text here
</tabber>

Parser functions and conditionals

<tabber>
Tab1 = {{{1|}}}
|-|
Tab2 = {{{2|}}}
</tabber>

Becomes:

{{#tag:tabber|
Tab1={{{1|}}}
{{!}}-{{!}}
Tab2={{{2|}}}
}}

Tabber within tabber

<tabber>
First Tab =
Example Text 1
{{#tag:tabber|
Inner Tab 1 =
Example Text 3
{{!}}-{{!}}
Inner Tab 2 =
Example Text 4
}}
|-|
Second Tab =
Example Text 2
</tabber>

Example:

Example Text 1

Example Text 3

Example Text 4

Example Text 2
