The Curtain of Cruelty

It looks like a deep purple version of the Aurora Borealis--for that reason, it's very hard to see at night, unless you're within a well lit area. It drifts across cities and countries soundlessly, like smoke on the wind.

No one knows where it's generated from, and no one knows how to dispel it.

Those that have been affected by it are reported by their friends and loved ones to go through a sudden personality change. Fits of rage are not uncommon.

Recorded footage of the descent of the Curtain of Cruelty has surfaced. A black-and-white surveillance camera outside a bank adjacent to a park recorded an innocent hanami celebration that descended into chaos after what appeared to be a puff of smoke wafted across the camera's field of vision. A brawl ensued, with various people being sent to the hospital, some with life threatening injuries. To make matters worse (and even more bizarre,) all of the people who were reported to be at the park had no memory of the event, or the last thirty to forty-five minutes leading up to it.

The Curtain of Cruelty is currently being investigated by the Looker Detective Agency.
