Trivia
- This Episode contains many references to DiC's English Dub in the original Japanese Version.
- The Characters "Dennis" and "Christine" in this episode are references to Denis Akiyama and Kirsten Bishop as well as the characters they played.
- When Daniel Kano recognizes the characters they played he pronounces Zoycite's name differently (ゾエザイト as opposed to ゾイサイト), this is to differentiate between the pronunciations of the two versions. The name of Malachite, Kunzite's dub name, remains intact (with マラカイト being used).
- As opposed to Pinako and Katerina doing the Normal "おしおきよ!" ("Oshiokiyo!") and Daniel messing it up by doing "そして、ここはお前だぜ!" (The show's Japanese equivalent of DiC's "And That Means You!" Phrase), All three perform the latter phrase in this episode, though Pinako and Katerina say "そして、ここはお前よ!" instead due to their speech differences.
- When the Kunzite and Zoisite clones are created by the Dark Agency's Science Department, the scene is played straight, In the English TV Dub however, The Zoycite clone comes out male due to "Regional Differences" which everyone will fight over, a reference to how various dubs of Sailor Moon also changed the character to be a female, while also simultaneously referencing the original version of the character and breaking the fourth wall.

Ok, so this episode is what is termed as a "Love Letter" to the dub, which is just ridiculous. every other episode usually makes fun of it in one way or another, Daniel's/Mars Warrior's "Firebird Striker"? what about "Fireball Charger" or "Bubble Blaster"?
this episode focuses on many aspects, both good and bad, the dub of the episode does too, but in a lesser capacity. |
| Side Note | I'll get this out of the way right now, Episodes in the japanese version always go "I shall punish you!" for everyone except Daniel, who always goes "And that means you" before being corrected by the others, almost like that theory in SMUncensored, good characters get the first one and badly written ones get the second one, but there are more episodes here which disprove that than there were in the original 4 dub seasons. All three say "And that means you" in ALL versions of the episode, Japanese Version, DVD Uncut, TV Dub, the line's the same.
VotDs are named Dennis and Kristen in the Japanese version, but their dub names are surprising... they are named Malachite and Zoycite in the dub version, I'll tell why it's surprising in a minute. MotDs are... Also Malachite and Zoycite, but they're clones... so that is confusing. |
| Side Note | Ok so about the name changes, here's the gist in the original.
Pinako and her friends visit the home of two TV stars that are shooting their next big series "Mineral Town". Daniel is happy to see that said stars played two villains in "The Adventures of Moon Warrior" in the Japanese version, however the DVD Dub saw through this and directly dropped all false pretenses and called out Sailor Moon's DiC Dub. the Japanese version even name drops the dub names Malachite and Zoycite... but why is it pronounced as though the latter should be spelt Zoey-cide? Maybe Neflyte was a Zoey, who cares. In the dub, they didn't Play the characters, they ARE the characters, Their previously seen deaths are shown once again as ARCHIVE FOOTAGE, but are now recontextualized. The Japanese version uses the original footage, but the first dub's audio is used, there is newly made digital footage used in-between, showing this was done via LIVE ACTION TOKUSATSU camera trickery and whatnot, most of the NEW footage is removed in the dub and it all gets re-recontextualized as being sent to a hospital in the Negaverse with critical injuries, with them having recovered just mere weeks after Queen Beryl was defeated. I'm all for how the dub originally kept their deaths, but with how this episode was written, the retconning out of them was bound to happen, even if it was written poorly. The original voice actors for Malachite and Zoycite don't return for... obvious reasons. R.I.P. instead two new actors take their place, and they really try to imitate their performances to a degree. |
| S.D.A. | "You Fool, there's now regional differences that people will be talking about for generations to come, you've made her clone a male!" - Random Scientist
OH DHX, how dirty! this isn't like you. Why would people want to talk about... correcting a dub change? The scene was silent in the Japanese version and in the DVD dub until the end where the scientist said that two clones can't be made at one time as they'd be weaker. We did not need that 'regional differences' line, dirty minded pervs. Edit July 35, 2025: Ok, so now I know why they added the 'regional differences' line in, yes it sounds stupid and immature, but so were the reasons what it was referencing were. In various dubs of Sailor Moon (DiC wasn't the only one to do this, apparently) Zoisite is changed to a woman, this action alone usually sparks discussions on forums and other internet places, this is what the line was referring to, not the changing of the body parts. |
