Initial History

The company was founded in 1835 by Bennett Douglas and Melville F. Stewart as a way of licensing steam locomotive technology. Their first licensing agreement was with John Ruggles, licensing the patent with which steam technology can be applied to other vehicles aside from locomotives. As technology progressed, there was soon no need for the patent, of which their early tractors had this mechanism, while later ones had a new auto-mechanism installed. in 1845, the company established its first industrial factory in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. a lot of their new mechanism steam tractors were manufactured between 1846-1863 When the internals of the first factory was destroyed by Confederates during the Civil War.

1920s and the shifting dynasties

The company's japanese headquarters in the 1920s, it has since been rebuilt with a flatter façade, which then became the headquarters for Norinchukin Bank, and later Dai-ichi Seimei. The building is now known as the shorter building of DN Tower 21.
