Previous Life

Leona was the 3rd child, and second daughter of the Empress of Saturn, Jenn, and her human husband, Keith. Unlike her sisters, Leona was not as dainty or delicate. She was physically stronger, and more robust than her sisters. She was very intelligent infant, and was walking much earlier than any of her siblings, and she would try to climb up and over things, as if she was trying to conquer the obstacle. She would follow her father around like a little duckling, and copy him when he would train her older brother Atrus. As she grew older, she was very beautiful, with features closely resembling her mother, and yet, she was quite the tomboy. She even preferred to dress in the prince’s garments, to which her parents had a set made specifically for her, and she would wear her hair in a long ponytail which was traditionally the style for the young males. She would refuse to partake in most princess related activities; she never attended balls or galas, tea parties, court gatherings, and she never really associated with any of the other princesses with the other kingdoms. Leona had a strong sense of justice, and she excelled in war tactics, taking lessons from her father and mother. She was very avid to defend anyone weaker than her, and she would moreover protect her younger brother, Devyen, from bullies and their older brother, Atrus.

She was a very active youth, joining in the training with the boys who aspired to join the royal guard. Many times, she found herself picking fights with anyone who challenged her for being a female. This, unfortunately, caused her to develop a short temper and she would be easily enraged by those who teased her and would lose control, causing severe fighting and she would cause very severe injuries to her fellow trainees. Because Leona would have trouble controlling her temper, the Empress warned Leona that she would pull her from training permanently, and forbid her from ever joining in any further tactics lessons. Her father stepped forward, and further scolded Leona, telling her that these outbursts of rage would win her no real satisfaction, for the ones she was fighting would have been her fellow comrades in the battlefield, and not her enemies. Keith suggested a challenge to help tame her temper. He made an agreement to his headstrong daughter, stating if she can maintain her temper, avoid fighting, and show these other trainees she could be respected equal, she can apply to the position of Captain of the Royal Guard.

Leona knew this was a very important position, and it would require a steadfast and strong person with a focused mind. She promised her father she would overcome her temper, and earn the respect of the other trainees. It was a difficult trial for her, as the boys would always tease her, and tell her she could never be the Captain of the Royal Guard, and that they could never respect her as a captain. She would grit her teeth and endure it all, wanting to prove her worth and ability to overcome all of them. Her brother Atrus would occasionally come to her defense, but she would tell him to let them be. She was determine to undergo all the punishment to maintain her composure, and keep herself from going into a rage against those who would one day become her soldiers.

After some time, the trainees could see teasing her was not provoking her like before. They decided to simply best her in training at this point. When assigned to a team, her teammates would opt to ignore her, and let her struggle without their aid. This did not go unnoticed, and her teammates would be punished for this behavior. They would complain that they were being mistreated because she was a princess, and the drill instructors were ready to come down even harder on these recruits, but Leona would tell them to leave them alone. She needed no special treatment, and she would prove she was just as good of a soldier as any Saturnian, and she denounced her royal title of "princess". While some ignored her words, others among the trainees started to realize Leona was speaking true.

When the time came for the recruits to graduate to official soldiers, the senior officers decided to initiate a War Game to see how well these trainees would fare if confronted with a near real battle simulation against experienced officers. Leona initially protested as the odds were severely stacked in the favor of the senior officers, and she expressed her concerns to her parents about what these senior officers were capable of against the fresh recruits. With this, many of the recruits thought the "Militant Princess" was trying to ruin their opportunities to prove themselves as worthy soldiers for the royal guard. With this divide among the recruits, The Empress decided to allow the recruits to vote on whether or not they wished to proceed with the War Game, to which a majority of them did vote in favor. The Empress delegated to her husband to ensure the games would be under royal observation to ensure things did not get out of hand under any circumstances.
