Aya Shameimaru is Gensokyo's resident reporter, known for writing "slightly" exaggerated news articles about anything that happens in Gensokyo. She's very strong and is probably stronger than she shows since she sometimes "accidentally wins" battles while only meaning to cover a news story. She is always polite when conducting an interview, but her attitude depends on just what kinds of people she's dealing with. She's very polite with people who are strong, but is much firmer with weaker people. Unfortunately, most people aren't entirely comfortable around her because her mannerisms seem to change so quickly AND her reputation precedes her: everyone in Gensokyo has heard about the Bunbunmaru Times.

Aya's the biggest connoisseur of rumors about the girls of Gensokyo, and everything else for that matter since she's a notorious snoop. Through observing for herself and collecting information from colleagues, barely a moment passes when she isn't obtaining information. However, to say much of her material is mingled with rumor is an understatement. Many of the girls of Gensokyo hate dealing with Aya because the news articles she writes about themare filled with as much of her own personal opinions as actual news. For example, when she publishes things like "Reimu just seems to be a laid-back drunkard" in her newspaper, it's no wonder many other Gensokyo residents are less than thrilled to see themselves in the news. It also doesn't help that Hatate Himekaidou actually proved that Aya was one time deliberately instigating events so that she could write about them first-hand before anyone else could get the scoop.

Aya is well over 900 years old (closer to 1000) and it's speculated that she might be almost as old as Yukari.

Takes a lot of pictures of people for use in her newspaper, and since she's often exaggerated articles, it's not unreasonable to expect her to exaggerate pictures...
