Field Log: Venus
A Field Log complied by Matsuo Shin of the exploration of the newly restored planet Venus. Note: these entries are not in any particular order.
“While my first trip was more or less accidental, this time I was far more careful in my approach. I deliberately lowered my vessel far enough below the clouds to see the features of the newly restored planet but high enough to make out distinctive patterns in it’s geography. From my high orbit, I could make out at least two of the continents of the planet of love, of which I am sure there are more. The largest of these two, I believe Human astronomers refer to as Aphrodite Terra. It is amusing in the fact that what little I do know about the planet from my past is that the names of these lands were the same, suggesting that it may be a subconscious memory left over from the Silver Millennium. The terrain of Aphrodite seems to be a fairly rocky sort, with several lower mountain ranges about it.”
“To the north of this land is the smaller continent of Ishtar Terra or simply Ishtar. Even from this height, I can spot the impressive mountain the humans call Maxwell Montes. I do not recall the actual name and will have to ask Sakura when I see her. I believe i see what seems to be ice over the surface but it may be a trick of the light as well. Given it’s position, I may need to explore that terrain with a proper party. Instead, I will attempt to land on Aphrodite.”
“I have landed on what seems to be some manner of grassy plain, apparently within the mid-central territories of Aphrodite. From what I can see outside the window, it appears to be mainly made up of large patches of long golden grasslands with the odd tree and stone. I can see in the distance a handful of large hills, not tall enough to call mountains bur rather strangely pleasing in their appearance. All in all, it brings to mind the lands of Greece oddly enough. I cannot see any life at the moment, but after my last trip, I do know that it is out there.
"Today I have chosen to land further inland to Aphrodite Terra. In contrast to the grasslands from which I landed earlier, it seems this region is much more forested, though it is not the thick woods of Quinox from which I am accustomed to. It seems that the day in which I have landed there are signs of what I can only guess is some manner of storm on the horizon. I am not sure yet if this is the norm or if this is left over from the planet's previous state but I will see."
"The trees I have mentioned before are similer to the ones I saw when I first arrived, though slightly different in nature. They are not large but rather slim, almost graceful and though they grow close together, this thinness means that there is plenty of room to walk around. The bark is extremenly smooth, almost like glass, while the leaves are small, flat and a tint of yellow-ish gold. I have not seen any fruit on the trees, so I have to assume there are none, though they do give off an odd smell, almost perfumed in it's nature. I will take a few leaves with me to bring back home to give to those with more scientific knowledge than myself."
"I've retreated to the ship as the rain has started to fall. It seems to be just regular water rather then anything of any dangerous nature. This is very important to note since this seems to suggest there is no sign of the previous state of the planet. The storm is unusually strong and violent and I can hear a few trees falling over. It is only by luck that my ship's anchor that the vessel hasn't been forced onto it's side. I want to make a joke about the Goddess of Love's jealous fury being like this storm but I'd rather not have Minako kill him."
