Pluto is dwarf planet located in the Sol system in the Kuiper Belt. Much controversy surrounded its demotion from a full planet in 2006 by the IAU. It has a very thin atmosphere, and a varied orbit which often crosses with that of Neptune. It is the second largest dwarf planet in the Sol system, Eris being the largest. Pluto currently has 3 known moons.
In Roman mythology, Pluto was the god of the underworld, keeping the souls of the dead in the afterlife. One of Sailor Pluto's attacks is appropriately named "Dead Scream."
Pluto's symbol is derived from the astronomer Percival Lowell, whose initials, P. L., were combined to make the symbol. Percival Lowell didn't discover Pluto, but started the movement that searched for "Planet X" in his observatory.
