Community Conduct Standards
Gemini's Community Conduct Standards
The Suburban Senshi chat community's been around for almost 12 years. (It's almost a teenager!) And like a Teenager, it's started to get a bit rowdy.
And I don't mean a fun kind of rowdy.
People have been getting downright hostile lately. I don't know where it came from, but it's gotten real easy for folks to tell each other some real nasty stuff when having disagreements about honestly stupid and trivial things.
People are wanting to get the last word on each other, acting smug, going out of their way to correct other people, and just being insensitive to the point where everyone's becoming ornery.
Maybe "everyone" is too big a word for it, because not everyone goes off on huge rude arguments or gets caught up in trying to be right at all costs--but everyone else certainly does pay for it by having to sit there and watch the dang train wreck happen, and then hear complaints about it after.
It didn't always used to be like this. But you know what they say--familiarity breeds contempt--and after almost the entire life of a human being in some places, people are way too familiar with each other to make communicating anything less than personal.
It's like any family. Family knows how to push family's buttons, and they do it hard. But like a family, there's gotta be a time when that kinda roughhousing gets cut off, and this is that time.
I don't know if it's a combination of internet distance or what, but I'm pretty sure that 99% of this behavior wouldn't be happening offline. Offline we suck up our heated opinions and go off to grumble elsewhere. We put on a smile and stay civil, in order to keep the peace, and honestly avoid getting dragged away by the cops or kicked out of wherever we are.
And seeing all the cut-throat... venom that's been going around... well, it's time to stop it. And how do we stop it? By changing the environment.
From this minute on, Suburban Senshi chat and sidebar and forums and discord and chatango and whatever the heck else we will use in future, is gonna be a polite zone of civil conversation, and nothing more. Treat it like casual work watercooler chat. Joke, poke fun in kind spirits, but always be respectful and polite. If you aren't, you're gonna be asked to leave the area until you can be. If you don't, you're getting kicked out till you see sense.
Remember something. There's real people behind those names on the screen, and they deserve to be treated with respect. What happens in the #suburbansenshi2, 3 and 4 chat is play-acting. What happens in the sidebar and others places... ain't. It's very real, and it can very hurt.
You're gonna act kind and courteous and respectful at all times to each other. If you have a disagreement, don't hash it out on this site, take it elsewhere or drop it entirely. Don't bring outside insults in here. It should go without saying but don't insult the other chatters, their families, their preferences or anything else about em.
This is a place for fun and enjoyment and not a place to soapbox about your grievances with someone else. Not any more.
This ain't a democracy, either. When you get told by OPs to stop talking, you stop immediately. Don't try to get the last word or drop in some loophole to get around it. Stop immediately. Do as you're told or you will be shut down and you'll have no one but yourself to blame.
And also, if you aren't an OP, don't try to act like one and direct traffic. Get an OP. See something, say something to them. You got lots of ways to contact them.
Short version: No more personal attacks on each other. No more rudeness. No more insults or you will pay the price. We;'re here to have fun and talk as friends. If you can't say anything nice then say nothing at all.
