Eirin Yagokoro is a genius of medicine from the Moon. It's widely believed that she alone knows how to create the Hourai Elixir. She is living in exile in Gensokyo after choosing to stay with and devote herself to Kaguya Houraisan on Earth rather than return her back to the Moon. She is extremely famous amongst the Lunarians and the Moon-Rabbits, having not only been instrumental in the founding of Lunar society with Lord Tsukuyomi, but also being its leading medical mind and the person in charge of the Moon's emissaries to the Earth. Eirin played SOME kind of role during the War of 1969, although it's never been fully explained just what she did. However, it IS known that one of her more powerful spell attacks is called "Curse of Apollo 13."
Eirin generally a fairly pleasant person and is devoted to serving her best friend, Kaguya, but she does not suffer fools gladly, and because of her incredibly high intelligence, she can come across as conceited, impatient, and condescending at times to those not sharp enough to follow her explanations immediately. The drugs she makes can be a little TOO powerful sometimes: some of her "medicine" can be the deliberately toxic kind, or have unexpected side effects such as hallucinations (as Carrie once discovered to her chagrin and surprise). She frequently manufactures and sells medicine to the people of Gensokyo, including the various girls. One example of what she can make is the medicine called Kochoumugan (Butterfly Dream Pill), which guarantees the person who takes it will have a pleasant dream once they fall asleep. The medicine was featured in an article in the Bunbunmaru Times, but still remains fairly unpopular (mostly due to the fact that the paper itself isn't too popular...thanks Aya). There is one customer, Alice Margatroid, who's a regular buyer, although no one knows why.
Eirin is a harsh taskmaster to Reisen, expecting much from her and demanding perfection. More than once Reisen has fallen short and being subjected to "punishment time", a situation that the mere memory can trigger traumatic flashbacks in Reisen. Unfortunately for Reisen, more often than not she's gotten in trouble with Eirin not because of any real failing on her part, but because of Tewi's pranks. This has led to some speculation that Eirin may not be as smart as Tewi, because Tewi has succeeded so often in tricking Eirin AND avoided getting caught.
Other
Eirin is well over 1500 years old and is one of the founders of the Lunar Capitol.
Has occasionally used the rabbit-youkai at Eientei as test subjects. None of them have died (that we know of) but between that and Aya Shameimaru, Eirin's nickname of the "Shady Nurse" has been solidified.
Eirin never seems to get sick. Or stay hurt. In fact, no matter how badly she's hurt she always seems to bounce back in 24 hours.
Yuyuko Saigyouji doesn't like Eirin very much at all. Or Mokou and Kaguya for that matter.
A true beauty of the Lunarians, Eirin is not like most of them in that she does not view Humans as filthy beings to be avoids.
