About

As a vampire, he appears only at night and avoids the sun like the plague. Similarly, he is very uncomfortable and can be injured by people who are connected to the sun, such as Sailor Sol. He also has a great fear of fire, Vampire Hunters, and beings who are very old, such as TheHunterKiller. It was the latter whom he totally reviled, considering her a bully and sadist who tormented him needlessly. This was almost certainly because he saw her as evidence of the reality of his own fears--that centuries of loneliness and predation would erode his every kindness and make him a completely callous, uncaring monster. He eventually overcame most of his physical weaknesses with the help of the House residents; Eitak giving him a fire-resistant brooch, and even managing to steal the boon from the Silver Crystal meant to ward Matsuo Shin from the strength of the Sun. Unamused by these antics, Chibiusa temporarily turned him pink.

Hulking Figure sometimes goes by Nirsi, a name given to him by Miara Mitsuki, which means "all shapes" in Lupa. This name reflects his ability to shape shift into other creatures, such as a bear or snake. As he mastered these powers, he also took the forms of a fox (sometimes with multiple tails), a kitten, a shark, an extremely large squid, a swarm of locusts, a bat, and sometimes a cloying cloud of sentient mist. He once told a very leery Impressario that the "lingering energy" of the many supernatural transformations that took place in Tokyo lent great ease to his studies to further transform himself.

Interactions with Others

He formed friendly relationships with Matsumi Kaze and Miara, while coming under the unwanted attentions of a Tokyo coven and the Japanese Slayer. He does, however, tend to make people nervous, such as Vilya or Kai.

Eventually he revealed that his name is Dimitri, and tried to take a more active social role in the Ten-Aino house. His results have been mixed at best. Dimitri, as people now call him, seems to care about the safety of very few people--but what he sees as protecting those he cares about makes the term "smothering" a complete understatement. He has promised something to Matsumi Kaze, but she is quickly finding that it is a mixed bag having Dimitri see himself as her guardian.

A hopeless romantic (literally), Dimitri decided that he wanted to see the auroras in an unforgettable way. To whit, he used a bit of misdirection to assume the form of an enormous, coal-black horse, and used this form to race Gemini Sunrise and Rally, while carrying Matsumi Kaze on his back. The race was a mix of poetry and chaos, but he emerged victorious from the challenge.

A far more difficult challenge for the Vampire seems to take the form of a woman. Mika Manavoff, a woman who, like him, has been outcast by most of humanity. A woman who has strange powers of her own, and gives no consideration to Dimitri's status of "monster." A woman who seems to be very much in love with him. This relationship stagnated when Mika seemingly vanished for some reason. Without this legitimate source of affection, the vampire actually became so desperate for positive human contact that he shape-shifted into the shape of a kitten and pranced and posed in a pathetic and creepy but nonetheless successful bid to gain the affection he missed so much.

During the second Nonary Game, Dimitri showed that with the right motivation, he was capable of being both very selfless and very brave. He faced death with an almost earnest fearlessness, and put himself in considerable danger in order to save Jack Dinsdale's life. Upon returning, he seemed truly elated that he could still be a genuine hero. Moved by this success, he used his powers to locate an ancient sunken ship, and sold the information to Michael Sunnyside for a great deal of money which he spent to form outreaches and charities for disadvantaged children. Even for this noble deed, he could not stand to attend galas and observe the level of formality this higher status afforded him. Within a month, he abandoned this lifestyle of pomp and hypocrisy, and was lounging in the hot springs in his old muddy clothes once more.

Dimitri has also hinted that he finds the concept of belonging to a Lupa pack to be both fascinating and sublime. He was very interested in becoming accepted by the Lupa and their society with a permissive attitude towards ethical predation. Unfortunately, he wore out his welcome with Miara, and most of the others had little to do with him beyond social niceties--certain aspects of his physical nature made them uncomfortable, something he may not have been to aware of.

Character and Personality

"[In this,] like every other aspect of life, in order to get what you really want, you are going to have to confront something that scares you. "
—Dimitri

At many times, the crushing weight of his non-human existence weighed heavily upon Dimitri. He seemed to truly seek to find some way to establish or make himself relevant in the world he found himself in. Mentioning that he had neglected the oaths he had taken, he was morose in many of his appearances. Most of the time, Dimitri tried with considerable success to restrain his vampiric urges. He only once propositioned a person to join him in deathless existence--Erica Fontaine, who he reasoned was pure enough to overcome the beastly temptations that were the price of his immortality. She let him down as gently as she could.

Despite his horrible problems socializing, Dimitri arguably had a good heart despite what he himself thought. During the most difficult times for the heroes around him, Dimitri exhorted them to do what it took to continue to be just that. Mixed with this heartfelt encouragement was quite likely a nagging understanding that he himself could not truly be like the shining beacons of virtue he idolized so much. During one of Matsumi Kaze's most trying times, as the splayed bodies of innocent people were used as a medium to send her cruel propaganda, Dimitri rallied her spirit by saying, "heroes are not heroes because they are able to rescue everyone, they are heroes because of the sacrifices they make to save all that they are able."

Heroism and Death

Within a few nights of saying those prophetic words, and after speaking with another ancient warrior who was at the end of her long and violent journey, Dimitri lost his life attempting to defend an alternate universe Matsumi Kaze. Entering combat with a horrifying entity who was far more adept at overcoming its wounds than he was, he fought to the death and defended his ward long enough for her much-more-powerful alter ego to show up. Frenzied and wounded almost beyond reason, he actually used his own body to defend the he youthful heroine he was trying so hard to protect--reasoning that ensuring that this extra-world version of the person he cared about so much survived to become a paragon of goodness and virtue was worth losing his own life.

Though such might be seen as a tragic and lackluster end, Dimitri often remarked in the years he was lounged around the house that he never expected he would be lucky enough to have the existence he was currently able to enjoy. While it was a difficult transition for him to adjust to the festival of optimism and leisure, and it was a great struggle to let go of the sense of hopelessness and gloom that his abysmal and broken homeworld seared within him, Dimitri often spoke of how fortunate he felt to find such a paradise and dwell in it, free of want and pain and mortal enemies, for so very long.
