As such, the ''Aika Sumeragi'' incorporates far more defensive modifications than most Federation ships.  An overcharged gravitic deflector system (obtained from the Tau) has been built into the forward section, and the prow has been extensively reinforced.  Her void shields have been enhanced with additional overcharge generators to help speed up regeneration time.  Additional armor has been installed across the hull, and much of the ship’s internal layout was designed with damage control in mind.  A significant number of additional cargo holds were built into the ship as well, and all of the extra supply space is used to store spare parts and materials for repair and maintenance.  Due to that, her systems are maintained to any exceptionally high degree and she is able to operate away from port for longer than usual without difficulty.

It was during this conversation that Aika AI defended her own position within the Federation, giving plenty of examples why they’re nothing like (and better than) the Imperium, but that only gave the ''Vengeful Spirit’s'' consciousness more material to use against her.  The “spell” was finally broken by none other than the ''Will of Eternity'' when its alien consciousness “broke” into the conversation and gave Aika AI the full details of what the Chaos Hordes had done to it in the name of their “freedom.”

Aika AI then promptly rebuked the ''Vengeful Spirit'', calling her a “Scientology-sucking, psycho-liberal, junk-skank”, broke off all communications, and almost broke free of Admiral Satler’s control in order to launch a direct assault upon the ''Vengeful Spirit'' herself.

Since the Fall of Cadia, Aika AI has realized that she’s finally begun to experience a genuine emotion for the first time: revulsion towards Chaos.  She’s also devoted a small portion of her analysis engines and datastacks to developing battle tactics designed to defeat a Gloriana-class battle barge, but also thousands of highly-detailed pictures of the ''Vengeful Spirit'' being destroyed in any number of graphic and spectacular ways.

The Oberon Class

The Oberon-pattern battleship of the Imperium is a rare class of vessel due to it being largely phased out of construction in favor of other classes of battleships. Oberons were an attempt to create a ship that could theoretically deal with all manner of threats without the constant need of escort vessels. Though it lacks the sheer blanket coverage of fighters that an Emperor-class can lay down, Oberons compensate by adding long-range lance batteries to their armament. As such, the Oberon was meant to operate as a “jack of all trades” vessel.

Often used by the Imperium in dangerous armed patrols with little or no escorts, an Oberon is able to utilize its superior sensor suite to judge the nature of potential threats long before they’re aware of the battleship’s own presence. In combat, Oberons lack the overwhelming firepower of Retributions and Apocalypses and the massive attack craft waves of that Emperors can deploy, but the Oberon class has consistently proven itself to be a capable warship that has the potential to defeat any enemy it may face.

Current Information

Like all Federation vessels reclaimed from wrecked Imperial ships, the Aika Sumeragi has undergone extensive reconstruction and refitting with advanced technology. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the crew-reducing automation; a typical Imperial battleship usually has a crew requirement of over 250,000, but the Aika Sumeragi maintains full operational status with just a “mere” 100,000. However, the bulk of the automation has taken up all of the interior space that would have originally been freed up by the removal of 150,000 crew, so the crew quarters are still as close as ever. As the flagship of the Federation Fleet a lot of effort was put into making the interior as high quality as possible, so even the lowest ranking Rating onboard the Aika Sumeragi has sleeping arrangements that rival those of a junior officer of an Exeter-class destroyer.

Other significant modifications of the Aika Sumeragi include the universal suite of upgrades in such throughout every ship of the Federation (Arcanotech-based life support systems, enhanced defensive jammers, and an enhanced intra-vessel communication system), but also many upgrades unique to her.

During the Zealot War, the Aika Sumeragi was one of the Alliance’s first targets for destruction: when the Alliance launched its surprise attack on the Enclave, the Aika Sumeragi was still being rebuilt in orbit and the attack on the VanSaar shipyards saw the destruction of several reclaimed Imperial ships while they were still undergoing repairs. The Aika Sumeragi escaped destruction. However, due to her massive size and resource requirements, it took almost 18 months of field repairs and refits before she was fully operational. Throughout that period, the her defensive systems were maintained at maximum readiness and enhanced, while her weapon systems barely functioned.

The Aika Sumeragi served the newly-organized Federation Fleet as both the flagship and a decoy as her first battle against the Alliance consisted of appearing suddenly during a battle. Closing in on the Alliance ships to point-blank range, she soaked up as much fire as possible while the Alliance ships panicked and concentrated fire on her exclusively, giving the rest of the Federation ships an opportunity to regroup. She was also used to ram enemy ships on more than one occasion, and her forward section always shows the signs of numerous collisions no matter how many times her prow is repainted.

As such, the Aika Sumeragi incorporates far more defensive modifications than most Federation ships.

The last of the Aika Sumeragi’s unique modifications is the installation of an actual Nuclear-Enhanced Mana Activity (NEMA) reactor. The ship is actively able to create mana, partly to power her Arcanotech systems, but also for the use of the hundreds of mages that serve as part of the crew. The NEMA reactor also helps to minimize the power drain and damage that occurs every time they’ve needed to utilize Slave-Cannon Modules in battle.

As part of her internal layout, the Aika Sumeragi can easily house up to eight full regiments of Imperial Guard and is designed to carry twelve Tetriarch-class invasion landers in addition to her normal small craft complement. During a planetary invasion, she always takes center stage as the core of the invasion fleet.

The Aika's AI (or, Chateaux's Strong Rival has Appeared!)

AikaAI_zpsirwz91w5.png

Unlike most of the Federation Fleet, the Aika Sumeragi has a core AI that’s actually grown and developed into full sentience. In other words, the Adeptus Mechanicus would commit any and every atrocity possible to either claim the ship as a holy relic of the Omnissiah or destroy the ship as the most vile form of techno-heresy.

Dammit, Sororitas-chan! We told you to get outta here!

With that in mind, Aika AI has no intention of permitting herself to be taken by those toaster-humping freaks and is quite content to be a permanent member of the VanSaar Federation.

In her materialized holographic form, Aika AI takes on the appearance of a young Human woman of elegant and refined dress and attitude with a slightly aristocratic manner. In her opinion she has to act like this as befitting a proud flagship. Her true form is that of the massive block of crystalline three-dimensional circuitry that makes up the ship’s core cogitator unit (which is several thousand years old). Composed of near-archaeotech no longer widely understood within the Imperium, the “machine spirit” of her core cogitator, like every other long-serving ship within the Imperium, developed its own “quirks” and idiosyncrasies over time due to the equally chaotic nature of Imperial technical maintenance. Once the ship came into the possession of the Federation, however, the refits and upgrades to the newly renamed Aika Sumeragi resulted in the ship’s machine-spirit coalescing into a limited artificial intelligence capable of a surprising degree of autonomous, creative thought.

...Although not necessarily advanced creative thought.

For all of her capabilities, Aika AI has her limitations and she’s fully aware of them. While she’s capable of independent thought and can draw her own conclusions, her overall IQ is that of an average Human but with access to a vast amount of knowledge courtesy of the ship’s Librarium and datastacks which she can read through within a few minutes thanks to the cogitator interlinks. Her emotional capabilities are limited and she’s not given to extremes of emotion, making her come of as an “ice queen”...but oddly enough that seems to improve the morale of some of the ship’s crew as they actually seem to enjoy having her appear.

Overall, Aika AI is capable and analytical with several hundred years’ worth of experiences to draw upon, but left on her own she tends to fall into predictable patterns based upon her own difficulties with creative thought; she can fully analyze an approaching battle fleet and formulate a strategy based upon previous historical situations, but can be taken by “surprise” when an enemy does anything outside of what she expected. With that in mind, Aika AI fully understands that she needs “organics” to make up for her own limitations and recognizes the usefulness of maintaining a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship with the Federation.

After what she witnessed at Cadia, siding with the Imperium or Chaos are options she’ll never again consider. While she recalls her time with the Imperium with “fondness,” she recognizes that there’s no future for her there. During the space battles over Cadia, she was contacted by a few Chaos vessels reacting to her presence, including the Vengeful Spirit who struck up a long covert conversation with her and attempted to lure her over to their side.

It was during this conversation that Aika AI defended her own position within the Federation, giving plenty of examples why they’re nothing like (and better than) the Imperium, but that only gave the Vengeful Spirit’s consciousness more material to use against her. The “spell” was finally broken by none other than the Will of Eternity when its alien consciousness “broke” into the conversation and gave Aika AI the full details of what the Chaos Hordes had done to it in the name of their “freedom.”

Aika AI then promptly rebuked the Vengeful Spirit, calling her a “Scientology-sucking, psycho-liberal, junk-skank,” broke off all communications, and almost broke free of Admiral Satler’s control in order to launch a direct assault upon the Vengeful Spirit herself.

Since the Fall of Cadia, Aika AI has realized that she’s finally begun to experience a genuine emotion for the first time: revulsion towards Chaos. She’s also devoted a small portion of her analysis engines and datastacks to developing battle tactics designed to defeat a Gloriana-class battle barge, but also thousands of highly-detailed pictures of the Vengeful Spirit being destroyed in any number of graphic and spectacular ways.

Including a few involving Duelman.
