The Pandorica/Van Saar Joint Defense Force (PVSJDF)

Created on September 27, 2012 by the alliance between President-General and Supreme Leadertrix Chibi-Usa of Pandorica Isle and Governor-Militant Solarchos of the Van Saar Federation, the PVSJDF began to arrive two days later amidst what was originally thought to be a huge, unscheduled meteor shower.

The 24th Federation Imperial Guard regiment had made orbit and begun planetfall. Dropships, assault shuttles, and mass-conveyors descended from the skies by the hundreds in true epic fashion, deploying thousands of soldiers, armored vehicles, construction materials, and pre-fab structure kits.

The first massive machine, a Warlord-class battle Titan, stepped out of the apartment building-sized drop cradle it had landed in and planted its feet onto the soil of Pandorica Isle, sending out tremors that could be felt for kilometers around. Then the SECOND Warlord Titan stepped out of its drop cradle.

Bricks were immediately shit and heads began banging. "Oh yeah, this is gonna kick ass!!!!!"

Modular Colonial Structure

The Van Saar have been using the Modular Colonial Structure (MCS) system for a military purposes for years. The MCS is, in short, a system in which outposts and bases are built using pre-fabricated structure kits that can be easily moved and assembled in the field with surprising speed. MC structures are sturdy, task-specific, and environmentally sealed. Standard policy within the Federation is to build several structures on the surface and have many more built underground with each structure separated by a few meters of hardened ferrocrete. All of the military structures on Pandorica Isle have been built under the same policy to minimize the environmental impact and to avoid scaring the hell out of too many tourists. What structures are built on the surface typically are colored to blend into the local terrain so as to be less of an eyesore.

Fort Sparta

The main headquarters of the PVSJDF. Fort Sparta houses the entirety of the Federation 24th Imperial Guard Regiment, which consists of 2300 mechanized and drop infantry (carried on Valkyrie dropships, Storm Eagles, and Chimera APCs), several dozen Leman Russ tanks (including the railgun-armed Mjolnir variants), combat aircraft (Vulture gunships, Thunderbolt and Lightning fighters, and a few Marauder-destroyers), super-heavy armor (Baneblades and Macharius heavy tanks), and several dozen fast attack vehicles (Sentinel walkers and the new Tauros Venators). Four Titans (two Warlords and two Reavers) are also attached to the regiment.

There is also a large, deep pit in front of the base where traitors, convicted criminals, and international world-class assholes that truly deserve it can be sent flying into with a mighty kick and an even mightier scream. It’s expected that the “Pit of Death” will become a tourist attraction.

In addition to mechanized and drop infantry, the Federation 24th is also made up of several companies of artillery and combat engineers. The combat engineers are typically scattered all throughout Pandorica Isle engaged in various construction projects. The artillery companies serve as the island’s first line of defense: over three dozen Hydra flak-tanks and Manticore missile launchers as well as nine of the new Praetor heavy missile carriers form the backbone of the island’s anti-aircraft defenses. Basilisk self-propelled artillery cannons have a range of 15 km: any foreign warship entering Pandorica’s territorial waters would already be within firing distance.

The real power of the artillery companies of the Federation 24th are the ten Deathstrike launchers that have been assigned to the island. With a firing range of measured in thousands of miles and capable of delivering anything from conventional high explosives to fusion warheads equivalent to 20 kilotons, the Deathstrike missiles are Pandorica’s answer to any hostile foreign nation.

Bastion outposts

These were also called “Insta-forts” by the Alliance during the Zealot Wars (who hated them with a passion). Made up of a single command center module, a garage module, subterranean storage and living quarters (that could comfortably house up to a hundred people), a pair of Skyshield landing pads, five turret emplacements for ground defense, and a single Icarus-pattern anti-aircraft laser cannon built into the roof of the command center, the whole outpost can be constructed from start to finish in less than 72 hours. They require only a standard “crew” of 30 to function at maximum effectiveness, but can still operate with as few as 12 in an emergency.

Each Bastion Outpost is supported by a full platoon of Van Saar infantry and two heavy weapon squads (a total of 67 people). One of the heavy weapon squads will always be equipped with missile launchers and some of those missiles will be of the anti-aircraft kind.

While the Bastion Outposts themselves aren’t crowded or uncomfortable, they’re not designed for extended habitation. Food has to be supplied occasionally and there are no dedicated medical or entertainment facilities. As such the outpost crews and soldiers are rotated out periodically. Some, however, voluntarily stay if the bastion is located in a particularly likable area such as the Kaioh Bluffs or the Shinjesus Cliffs.

There are a total of eight Bastion Outposts on Pandorica Isle, all located on strategic locations along the coastline. One is at the Shinjesus Cliffs. Two are located outside Capitol City Dongring. Three more are positioned equidistantly from each other along the Mizunomics Coast. All of them monitor the approaches to the island, stay in frequent contact with Fort Sparta, and patrol the areas constantly.

Forward Munitorium Depot

These are much larger than Bastion Outposts, consisting of larger landing facilities capable of servicing up to 18 shuttles at once, enhanced vehicle maintenance and repair capacity, a Garbage and Ore Recycling Facility (to supplement their supplies of construction materials), and very extensive underground buildings that go almost three hundred feet down.

FMDs are designed to support to the front-line elements of the Imperial Guard during war. They’re huge, bustling places, each one a home to 400 people who keep the base running 24 hours a day producing ammunition, medical supplies, food, fuel, and other vital materials needed to continue maintaining a war. The 240 automated minifacs and sixteen industrial alchemy labs that form the core of the base are always in operation, churning out a constant stream of medical arcanotech and up to half a million gauss rifle shots per hour during “sudden demand” situations. Each FMD also contains substantial hydroponic and forced-growth mycoprotein vats, growing enough food to sustain upwards of 1800 to 2000 people on a continual basis. More than half of the food grown is either stored in civil emergency stockpiles or transported to other front-line bases.

Forward Munitorium Depots are heavily defended. In addition to the standard double-layered perimeter walls surrounding the entire base there are a total of twenty turret emplacements equipped with an even mix of ground and air-defense weapons. A fully staffed company of Imperial Guard infantry with tank support is also assigned to each base (totaling nearly 500 soldiers each). Pandorica Isle has two such FMDs now; one is located just north of Capitol City Dongring. The second is located near the Forest of Ca...at.

Theater Air Defense Site

The Theater Air Defense Site (or TAD Site) isn’t quite as comparatively large as Munitorium Depots and needs only a crew of 190 to run, but they’re even more important. TAS Sites are built around a pair of high-energy particle-composite beam cannons, similar in design to the massive defense laser silos of the Imperium but smaller and simpler in scale. The cannons’ original function was to destroy potentially dangerous incoming meteors, but the Van Saar discovered long ago that upgrading the targeting software enabled the cannons to reliably target incoming missiles and aircraft just as well. While each particle beam cannon at a TAD Site only has a range of 50 miles in Earth’s atmosphere, has a five minute recharge time, and can only shoot at targets at an altitude of 500 feet or higher, it’s still vastly better than nothing.

A TAD Site also incorporates extensive long-range radar and ladar sensor arrays, eight laser-based anti-aircraft defenses, numerous ground turrets, hosts a full Imperial Guard company with tank support, and contains enough underground food production, housing, medical facilities, and light industrial equipment to endure being cut off from regular resupply for a minimum of six months.

Pandorica Isle has two TAD Sites operational. One is positioned near the Kaioh Bluffs and the other is on the opposite side of the island at Subaru Bay.

The Embassy

The Van Saar Federation has built a smaller secondary base outside of Capitol City Dongring that isn’t nearly as impressive as Fort Sparta but is meant to be far less threatening. The perimeter walls are still there, but there are no turret emplacements equipped with heavy ground cannons and anti-aircraft lasers. The Embassy does have a Garbage and Ore Recycling Facility that the city is free to use for itself, a long-range particle beam cannon that supplements the two TAD Sites, a trade center for global financial transactions, high-tech laboratory and research modules that are available for leasing, and extensive underground facilities for medical treatment, housing, food production, entertainment, and seventy industrial minifacs slated for the construction of commercial products. Eight Tokamak fusion microreactors provide more power than the base actually needs, so the excess energy is transferred out into the city itself; not enough to replace the existing power grid, but certainly sustain critical services in the event of a serious disaster.

If a major disaster did befall the island, up to 5000 people could take shelter within the Embassy’s underground housing units for several weeks.

The Embassy has a staff of 400, which are an even mix of Van Saar and girls from the Delmo Corporation. The bases’ defenses are also made up of a mix of Imperial Guard and Delmos. Obviously, the Embassy is a joint Van Saar/Delmo operation focusing more on cultural outreach than anything else.

Naval Assets

For all its might, the Federation 24th is mostly ground-based. Its air power is formidable, but dependent on fixed bases. In order to further protect the island and make sure all of his allies were involved Solarchos “subcontracted” part of the island’s defense to the Delmo Corporation.

Eager to regain a foothold on Earth, the Delmos were happy to assist. Part of Pandorica Isle’s navy currently consists of twenty completely rebuilt Soviet Yaz-class river patrol monitors. Their old diesel engines have been replaced with modern hydrogen fuel cells (third-generation experimental prototypes about to go into limited commercial production), better electronics and sensors have been installed, and their T-55 tank turrets have been replaced with those from Predator-Annihilators (that includes the twin-linked lascannons that came with them). These modifications opened up enough space on each boat to accommodate a third crew member. While the Yaz-2 patrol boats aren’t designed for deep ocean sailing, they’re quite adequate for coastal duties.

The other part of Pandorica Isle’s navy blows all of the patrol boats out of the water (figuratively and literally): the Delmo Corporation managed to “acquire” a fully operational Alfa-class submarine. Obtained in a Russian “garage sale” during the Delmo’s Hargan Era, the submarine remained in mothballed dry-dock after Morrigan took over – no one knew what to do with it. It was completely forgotten during the Zealot Wars. Now, after months of upgrades, renovation, and modernization, the “Seven Year Bitch” is ready to do some damage after her long incarceration.

Mercenary Forces (NONE!)

The PVSJDF and the Federation 24th Regiment do NOT make use of mercenaries. After the insanity that ensued during the Zealot Wars, the Van Saar are much more discriminating in the hiring of mercenaries after what happened LAST time! Mercs.jpg
